Beginners, Youth & Kids Program
We recommend attending one of our practice sessions for a trial before signing up, to gain an understanding of what our practice is like before committing to join. Please reach out to us on our Contact Us page and refer to our forms under our Membership Page to come out for a visit! Once you are ready to join, you may sign up for membership at the dojo anytime.
Come in comfortable gym clothes (ie. t-shirt and sweatpants) and we suggest you bring a hand towel and a extra set of clothes to change into as kendo can be a rigorous activity. As a beginner, you will need to purchase a shinai (bamboo sword), tsuba, and tsubadome (parts that goes with the shinai). If you have any questions, please feel free to ask our sensei or any of our other members. We are happy to help!
Youth & Kids Program
Our youth & kids program is for children between the age of 7 and 14. We can provide dedicated and separate kendo instructional programs to the younger members of our dojo so that content of instruction is more age appropriate. Many start as a family and kendo can become their lifelong special bond that the they can share together.
To create an environment where children and kids can:
Develop positive attitudes and habits such as:
Respect for to one-another (including fellow students, parents) and their own needs.
Perseverance, discipline, resilience.
Confidence in their ability to learn and master new soft and hard skills (which can be generalized to help with their life outside of kendo, e.g. school, friendships)
Learn kendo and kendo-related skills in a fun, encouraging, engaging and safe manner.
Members of our youth & kids program may be advanced to the adult practice at any age once their ability has reached competency as deemed by the head sensei. Sign-up requirements are the same as our regular adult members. Sign-up forms and fees are available under the Membership Page.
